Beans in Dominican Republic

Image
My home country of Dominican Republic is no stranger to beans! The peak of Dominican cuisine is “habichuelas guisadas,” stewed kidney beans often served over white rice. Beans are also a core ingredient in dishes like Moro, Locrio, and Sancocho.  Beans are even used for desserts, like with “habichuelas con dulce,” a sweet treat made form kidney beans and coconut milk. As the Bean Believer, I am proud to say that Dominican cuisine is pro-beans!

Beans in Britain

Beans are an iconic part of British cuisine, making up the heart of a selection of dishes. Baked beans on toast is a quintessential part of British breakfast and can also be enjoyed as a light lunch or snack. Baked beans are also a stellar side dish for foods like the full English breakfast, fish and chips, or sausage rolls. Although low in variety, the British love beans!

Beans are a staple ingredient in Japanese cuisine, used in a variety of dishes from savory to sweet.  Immature soybeans can be boiled or steamed and served as a snack or appetizer known as edemame.  Fermented soybeans, known as natto, are often ate with rice for breakfast.  Beans are even used for dessert, like with the Japanese sweet red bean paste known as anko. The Japanese really make the most out of beans!
